Snake Typing Game

A word appears at the top of the board and a food dot appears somewhere on the grid. Type the word letter by letter: each correct keystroke pushes the snake two steps along the shortest path to the food. Finish the word and the snake glides the rest of the way, eats and grows.

The catch is the blue timer bar under the word. Let it run out and you lose one of your three lives. Words start short and friendly, then get longer as your score climbs, so the game quietly walks you from three-letter words up to full keyboard workouts.

Read the whole word before you start typing it. Bursting through a word you've already read is far faster than typing letter-by-letter while you read. And don't panic on a typo: wrong keys cost accuracy but never move the snake the wrong way, so a clean recovery beats frantic mashing every time.

The word list scales in three tiers. Early rounds deal short, common words — the cat-dog-sun layer that any typist can burst through. As your score climbs, the game moves to medium words of five to seven letters, and finally to the long tier where words like "keyboard" and "adventure" demand a full read before your fingers start. The timer scales with word length, but it also tightens as your tier rises, so the pressure curve stays honest: a fast typist and a careful beginner both find their edge, just at different scores.

That ramp is why typing snake works as practice and not just play. The three-letter stage drills raw key location, the middle tier builds common letter patterns (th, ing, er), and the long tier forces whole-word reading — the same progression a typing course charges for, hidden inside a snake chasing its lunch.
