Hangman Typing Game

A word appears as blanks with one letter already revealed, so the first guess is never a coin flip. Press any letter key to guess it. Correct letters fill in every position they occupy; wrong ones join the used-letter row in red and add one stroke to the drawing. Six wrong letters and the run ends.

Solving a word does not end the game — it scores, then deals a new word with your remaining guesses intact. Your score is the total across every word you save, which means the real skill is spending wrong guesses carefully early so you still have them later.

Vowels first is the common advice and it is only half right. E is the most frequent letter in English and A, I and O are close behind, so opening with two or three vowels usually buys you the shape of the word cheaply. But vowels tell you where the gaps are, not what the word is.

The letters that actually identify a word are the frequent consonants: R, S, T, L, N. Once a couple of vowels are placed, those five will resolve most ordinary words. Leave J, Q, X and Z alone entirely unless the pattern demands one — spending a life on a letter that appears in barely any words is how good runs end.

Words are drawn from a list of ordinary seven-to-nine letter English nouns — things like harvest, compass and lantern. No proper nouns, no obscure vocabulary and no words that depend on knowing a specific subject, because a hangman word you have never seen is not a puzzle, it is a coin flip.

The difficulty does not ramp artificially. What changes as a run goes on is your budget: by the third or fourth word you are usually working with fewer guesses left, so the same word list gets harder because the margin is thinner.

This is the least typing-heavy game on the site and that is deliberate. Every keystroke is a decision, so it trains deliberate single-key accuracy and keyboard familiarity rather than speed — useful for a young player who is still hunting for letters, and a genuine rest between faster rounds.
